She was a young 77 years of age and fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bonnie was born on August 5, 1943 to Barker and Ruby Young at McCormick Hospital in Moberly, Mo. She graduated from Moberly Senior High in 1961 and attended two years of college at Park University later in life. She married her current husband, John David Allen, on August 2, 1986 settling in Wood Heights, Mo., where they were both active in the city.

Her career at the City of Liberty consisted of several administrative roles with her final position being the assistant to the chief of police prior to retirement. She truly enjoyed her work and the friendships she built over her career. After retirement, she and David (also retired) enjoyed traveling in their RV, going out to eat, meeting up with friends, attending country music shows, going on mission trips to Mexico, gardening, taking in pets, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful person, was full of life, and was an excellent writer. She probably should have been a journalist. One of her many talents was baking. Chocolate meringue pie was a well-known staple at family celebrations and her recipe will live on. Her children and grandchildren were a huge source of pride for her, and she loved them all dearly.

Bonnie could light up a room. She had an infectious laugh and was well loved by many coworkers, friends, neighbors, and her family. She loved life and had a generous spirit about her. Bonnie loved pets, especially cats. In her lifetime, she had several dogs and cats who all lived their best life with her and Dave. She had a special connection with them, especially the stray ones.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, John David Allen; children, Jeff McCoy (Robin), Tracy Riley (Jeff), and Gary McCoy; stepchildren, Bob Post, Stephen Post, Jeff Allen (Michelle), Julie Allen, and Jodi Jensen; grandchildren, Maddie Wilson, Lyndsey Ruiz, Kendra Adams, Gary Lee McCoy, Daniel Riley and Olivia McCoy; as well as many other grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation is planned for Monday, April 5, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. A graveside service will follow at South Point Cemetery in Orrick, Mo., beginning at 2 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The American Cancer Society or KC Pet Project in her name.

Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.

Our Sincere Condolences

Our deepest sympathy to all of the family.
