Richard was born in Austin, MN\u00a0on December 26, 1931.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Frame) Subra; parents, Earl and Margaret (Stromer) Subra; sisters, Jean Jensen and Evelyn Baldus; and son-in-law, Paul Krueth.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his spouse, Jacqueline (Boomsma) Subra; brother, Robert (Gail) Subra of Austin, MN; son, Gary (Mary) Subra of McDonough, GA; bonus son, Rich (Cheryl) Boomsma of Olathe, KS; daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Hanzlik of Shorewood, MN; Julia (Kerry) Ryan of Woodland Park, CO; Nancy (Dick) Romundstad of La Pointe, WI; Maria (Michael) Robbins of\u00a0Duluth, MN; Jenny Krueth of Brainerd, MN; bonus daughter, Dawn (Dave) Boomsma of Parkville, MO;\u00a0 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends to mourn his passing.<\/p>\n<p>Married for 47 years, Richard and Dorothy raised their six children, Carolyn, Julia, Nancy, Gary, Maria and Jennifer in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>After Dorothy\u2019s passing, Richard was blessed to be married to Jackie Subra for 19 years in the Kansas City, MO area.<\/p>\n<p>Richard was:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An active member\u00a0and former trustee\u00a0of the Northern Hills Baptist Church in Holt, MO<\/li>\n<li>Veteran of the US Air Force &#8211; based at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA<\/li>\n<li>Graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy<\/li>\n<li>Graduate of University of Minnesota Duluth with a Master of Science in Botany<\/li>\n<li>Chief Pharmacist of St. Luke\u2019s Hospital\u00a0in Duluth, MN where he implemented the UnitDose program<\/li>\n<li>Enjoyed sharing outdoor experiences like Hiking, Canoeing, and Camping with his Family<\/li>\n<li>Had a grand adventure into the Amazon jungle as part of a pharmaceutical\/botanical learning tour, brought home multiple native souvenirs, adventure stories, and a lifelong dislike of cilantro<\/li>\n<li>A prolific Craftsman who built 2 houses, a log barn, then took to making walking sticks and carved figures simply for the joy of giving them away<\/li>\n<li>Engaged in a fierce battle with Parkinson&#8217;s Disease\u00a0that took his body but never his Spirit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Northern Hills Baptist Church, Holt, MO.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkinson\u2019s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements in care of Bross &amp; Spidle Chapels Funeral Home, Kearney, MO.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Earl Subra, age 87, of Kansas City, relinquished life on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at North Kansas City Hospital Hospice House, Kansas City, MO.
