{"id":4221,"date":"2019-05-06T17:02:49","date_gmt":"2019-05-06T17:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brossspidlemonuments.com\/?p=4221"},"modified":"2019-05-08T04:48:41","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T04:48:41","slug":"george-allen-foster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.brossspidlemonuments.com\/index.php\/2019\/05\/06\/george-allen-foster\/","title":{"rendered":"George Allen Foster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4223 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/brossspidlemonuments.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/george_foster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.brossspidlemonuments.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/george_foster.jpg 430w, https:\/\/staging.brossspidlemonuments.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/george_foster-300x251.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/>George Allen Foster, 85, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center, surrounded by his family.\u00a0 He had battled COPD and severe back pain for several years.\u00a0 We are thankful that his pain is now gone and he can rest in peace.<\/p>\n<p>Allen was born April 16, 1934 near McFall, Mo., to Ocie and Tom Foster.\u00a0 He grew up on a farm south of Bethany, Mo., and attended rural schools and then Bethany High School.\u00a0 He was an athlete, participating in baseball, football and track.\u00a0 He served in the U.S. Army, a proud member of the 101<sup>st<\/sup> Airborne Division (The Screaming Eagles) from 1956-1958, he was stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky., and completed 15 paratrooper jumps while in the service.\u00a0 He married Sharon L. Gabbert on June 15, 1958 and they eventually made their home in Excelsior Springs, Mo.\u00a0 He was a long-time member of Woods Memorial Christian Church and had been a member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church for the last 11 years.\u00a0 Allen worked at TWA for most of his adult life as an airplane mechanic and engine inspector, retiring in 1996.\u00a0 He took great pride in his work and his perfect attendance for many of his TWA years.<\/p>\n<p>Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ocie Foster; brother, Leslie Foster; infant brother, Billy Wayne Foster; and infant granddaughter, Sara Foster.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon Foster; son, Larry (Lisa) Foster; daughter, Shari (Leo) Galey; grandchildren, Laura (Doug) Liber, Leo (Mary) Galey IV, Kevin (Lauren Rouse) Foster, Amy (Lora Westling) Galey, Rachel Foster; and great grandsons, Leo Galey V, Hudson Jack Liber and Miles Allen Galey.<\/p>\n<p>Allen was a loving, devoted husband and a caring, thoughtful father, spending many of his years supporting all of his kids\u2019 activities in school and beyond.\u00a0 He continued to be an athlete into his later years, running marathons and golfing, and even recorded a hole in one.\u00a0 He was an avid blood donor and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests giving blood or making a donation to your favorite charity in his honor.<\/p>\n<p>A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Buzard and all of the staff at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center, who took great care of Allen and showed him love and compassion in his final months.\u00a0 We will be forever grateful for their help.<\/p>\n<p>A visitation will be held at Barbee Memorial Church on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. with service at 3:30 p.m.; private burial will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements in care of Bross &amp; Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #efdbd9; padding: 1em;\">\n<h5>Our Sincere Condolences<\/h5>\n<p>We are so sorry for your loss.
